Some dirty ,stinking,lightfingered,thoughtless. selfish,brain dead moron has stolen the C hook off my winch tractor while parked in the woods in Baughurst near Tadley, hants. Its been with us for over thirty years and from my research cannot be replaced. Gutted.

I thought Freddie Gear's dad made these things from lorry half shafts when they were converting matadors. H&S didn't like them because they weren't retained if something snapped.

You probably used this one because it was on AJ`s tractor, anyway it is a lot easier to attach a c hook to a bond and winch rope. I will now be fumbling about with those poxy shackles until I can find a replacement :thumbdown:

you may need to make 1, or get 1, made ,i do believe h&s put an end to there use :thumbdown:

I dont know what they are rated at but the tractor has a 1" steel rope on it which has snapped on a few occasions and the C hook has never opened up. As catweazle pointed out they were probably forged out of old truck halfshafts because they made from 35mm ish thick diameter steel. The nearest look alike is in the image below. Anyway I have told my mum so god help the person who nicked it.
