Making a Prussik Loop

And groundies are idle while access takes place.

 

If I had to go back to body-thrusting on a Prussik while everyone else died of boredom I'd give up.

Mark, I'm not bothered about what the guys with go pros use to climb, I do my own thing, it works, it's always worked and I'm good at it.

I've tried the others, I persivered , I didn't like, I went to what I know.

If you persevered more you'd be even better, and climbing would be even easier. You'd be even faster, and make more money.

I'm not talking about mechanicals either, they're not for me.

 

I regret every minute of my life I spent crawling round on a Prussik.

As soon as I put a pulley under a Blakes I became a better climber, with more energy to do the job because I'd spent less getting to the office.

 

For the record I think a good climber on a Prussik would smash an average climber on any other system every time.

There is a good explanation of the Blakes and pulley in 'The Tree Climbers Companion'.

If I get time tomorrow I'll knock one up and take a pic, but the book explains it better anyway.

I've been looking at the Knut recently. Why do you prefer it to a VT Mark?

 

It doesn't look like it would self tend as easily, and possibly bind more. That said my VT doesn't always grip 100%, so I've had to adjust my technique accordingly.

The Knut is more reliable.

I went to a spider jack simply because it was easier. I went from prussic to blakes with a pulley below for exactly the same reason. Just seems to be a progression as I get older. Still struggle with the wrench so stick with the SJ.

Do it... I've had 7 months solid on mine, and it's a dream. Hitches make me angry when I climb now
