judas was never forgiven as he comitted a mortal sin by comitting suicide which is why the unconsecrated area of a churchyard is known as potter's field and why judas iscariot and brutus occupy the lowest level of hell in dante's inferno.

I would go with the right rev penfold.........i know bugger all about it but he seems to know his religious stuff..........well done brother:laugh1:

Yeah, I was tempted to cut them there and then Tim, but as I'm not the local TO, I'll wait till I have a chat with 'is Worshipfulness upon the origins of the choice.

No one was at home earlier today, guess this "buisiness" closes down on BH weekends :sneaky2:

PEDANT ALERT

The sin that lands both Judas and Brutus (and some chap called Satan) in the ninth circle of Dante's Inferno is betrayal not suicide. :D

Predictably, the bible gives contradictory reading on death of Mr. Iscariot. In one account, he simply buggers over a cliff - presumably not the inspiration for the tree's common name!!

i did know this tony, just forgot to add it:blushing: but satan is not in hell as satan he is there as lucifer after being cast out of heaven for trying to take over. Although brutus and judas did both commit suicide after betraying their friends.

Indeed, as did the third mortal in the ninth circle - Cassius who did so by proxy, ordering his buddy to kill him! Dur. However, he did so because he thought he'd lost a war.

I should think that in a moment of pure visionary genius, someone came up with a cutting-edge concept to incorporate a biblical theme to the planting.

After extensive research, involving putting the kettle on and typing 'bible plants' into Google, they arrived somewhere like this:

List of plants in the Bible - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
