ride on will not start!

Caz's ride on will not start. It will turn over and produce a spark, but I cannot get it to fire. Fuel appears to reach the carb and the solenoid on the carb appears to click but the beggar will not go! Any clues, it is a 12.5hp Briggs IC engine.

Seem fuel is not coming out of the carb into the inlet manifold then ?

Chuck some fuel into the inlet and see if it fires. Could be geting to carb but not going through it. Main jet blocked

As Stubby says the spark plug isn't wet then?

Could be one of the countless safety switches playing up?

If you are confident it has a spark then its not that, or the safety circuits, so be sure about the spark first.

Try disconnecting the earthing wire to the coil first to eliminate all wiring and switches.

It could be a blocked jet in the carb (at the bottom of the carb tube, just above where the bowl acres on.

Remove the bowl and check it out, at the same time make sure the solenoid valve is working.

 

It could be a stuck valve.

 

It could be that the choke is not fully applying.

How long since it was last run, and how old is the petrol? Mine won't start on old petrol - it will run OK once it gets going though.

Had a problem with one of mine this season for the first time, sat up all winter and would not start. Tried some easy start which it fired on, but wouldn't run, drained and re filled the petrol and ran fine

Not an expert on tthese and wasn't there when it ceased to operate. Fresh fuel after being run out (it did for a bit on the new tank full). I would have thought that the safety switches would have prevented it turning over and I can get a good spark from the HT lead to the manifold and it feels like movement in the solenoid under the bowl too. So a bit confused!

Sounds the same problem I had with a 10hp Briggs turned out valve seat/ valve problem, need to check compression.
