Yes, but then we would have seen the incident, in this case we only have "hearsay".

Once again the words 'tree surgeon' are applied to a person carrying out works to a tree.

"unknown to him, the branch he was cutting was supporting another..." Sounds like he did a proper risk assessment then.

I don't suppose HSE are involved on this one?

I can see where Paul is coming from, it seems nowadays in the press that anyone with a chainsaw in a tree must be a tree surgeon.

This story however has very little to go on and it could have been a wind throw he was dealing with.

But again, without enough facts to go on no one is correct

Must be wonderful to be perfect and never make an error.

 

Hope the guys OK and makes a full recovery, accidents do happen, even when all the correct checks and procedures are followed, even by the most experienced.

 

You're not wrong there Dave,i had a branch swish back and wrench my helmet off a week ago,you know,the one that comes from nowhere.

Things can happen to everybody and anybody.

I agree things can happen. I cut my arm years ago, but it was totally my fault. lucky and learnt a big lesson. I know nothing of the incident and wish him a speedy recovery. if the branch was 2 ton I would have thought a good assessment should have picked it up. that's a big lump. I think with the current economical climate and influx of 'tree surgeons', jobs will be done quicker to keep turnover up. sometimes at the cost of safety.

But climbing dead, damaged trees, big takedowns or even being at the top of a ladder can only ever be so safe.

 

Many skilled professionals die in their job. The thing that bugs me is, no blame no claim. We all know the risks. Be responsible for yourself. If you don't like it, or the kit, don't do it. rant over.

Wish him and his mates a full recovery.... There for the grace of god and all that. People make mistakes....

 

It is interesting that a massive lump has hit him. Would be good to hear a quality description of how it happened and take the learning.
