agreed, extra photo needed.

looks like 2-3" of sap but a good coloured heartwood in there but in my opinion walnut is always worth milling...

if milled and dried then your looking at £80ft3 not sure what the butt is worth though, rough guess £100 but possibly less as i can see cut marks in it.

as a wood turner i'd be happy with the sap on if it has a good dark heart as you can see in the pics of what i've done for delabodge on the link above.

don't firewood it let a turner use it if no one wishes to mill it.

who started cutting in half???

ok i dont know why the link turned out to be a google map???

it was intended to be this one to show what walnut will look like even with the sap.

Please can I echo the comment about length. An 8ft length is a lot more useful than two 4ft lengths. You may not be able to remove it from site but others can and quite often the log can be gone with cash in your hand before you have finished the clear-up.

I know a lot of sap but nice colour and also doesn't seem to be any shake... I'd pay £70-00 for it if it was within 5 miles of me...

With trunks like this , which are not really movable from site in one piece ( not worth bringing in lifting gear ) or not really suitable , time and mess wise for milling , I personally would cut in to rings slightly longer than the diameter , then cut each ring vertically from bark to bark through the centre ( or pith if off centre ) so I had 2 "D" shaped pieces that were more easily movable , each of these would make a good large bowl blank , after trimming to shape with a chainsaw , I cut a great deal of my blanks this way anyway . Seems a shame it was not used, but unless you know a turner and what he wants this will always happen , and as many others have said before not many turners want to pay much , but for example if these chunks were in a yard near me cut as I said , I would pay in the region of £10 per lump .and by looking at that lump would expect it to yield 8-10 blanks ....

My highly valuable walnut log helped pay for a day at peppa pig world today thanks very much.:001_smile:

kev that walnut trunk yielded 12x 1.5 x8ft planks with some lovely colour, very little sap wood, its milled and drying, and has its origin marked on it, ,treated to protect it from mini beasts, and will be set to dry for 2yrs, then will grace somebody`s house in a bit of furniture, thanks for having the forthought not to log it:thumbup1: a truly highly valuable walnut log :thumbup1:
