IMO there's an industry wide discrimination against groundies on both sides of the pond.

Whereas climbers get such special attention, as an industry standard, in case they bump their precious heads.

Is there a rescue rope in that tree? Is there a qualified aerial rescue climber on the jobsite in case precious gets in trouble?

But groundies chippin up piles of brush solo usin a whole tree chipper?

Perfectly legal mates. If he chips himself? Too bad. Had he followed proper procedures he'd be alive!

It's the new method of controlling emigrant influxes apparently!

Such a deal at 50 pounds a pop!

Please tell me I'm wrong about this reptilian aspect of this biz in the UK.

That there are ordinances and regulations saying thou shall never let groundies feed whole tree chippers solo?

Jomoco

WTF?

Where did you get this impression? It doesn't need refuting because it only exists in your head

Have you ever been to the UK? How many whole tree chippers do you think there are in this country? I haven't a clue myself but most of us can go for months without seeing one.

But are there ordinances prohibiting it?

Jomoco

Not per se but there is a hand fed chipper qualification that's more or less mandatory because the HSE (OSHA) says so.

Who hand feeds a whole tree chipper, do you have men that can drag whole trees?

Yes, and my reading of it indicated nothing prohibiting solo WTC operation.

It's my sincere hope and wish to be proven wrong bout this cruel and unusual discrimination of mistake prone groundies.

Climber makes a mistake? Stay calm mate I'll be right up tu help yu out mate!

Groundie makes a mistake? Ah, fook em!

My climbers drag brash if they have to, and are bloody good at it.

We all like to get to the pub together!

There's no 'prima donna' in team....

Sounds like you got a good team.

Climbers should muck in, it means everyone finishes earlier.

Unless the climber takes the micky after they're out the tree, groundies shouldn't moan about them clearing their ropes and rehydrating.

It's not like the groundies were busting a nut while the climber was getting up the tree, as until branches start falling there isn't a lot to do.

Doesn't help the matter if I do TQ.

I'm dead serious, and would love nothin better than bein provin wrong bout the legality of solo WTC operation in the UK.

As I know for a fact how this issue stinks up this whole industry in the USA.

Prove me wrong mate, please?

If charging top dollar is your thing you are going to be busy at busy times of year and everyone is your best mate that is for sure but if tree work is seasonal in your area as soon as things get quiet you may well see your phone slow down . A lot of tree work is undertaken by mediocre guys with ease who will be charging a lot less (and why not?)

What evidence of this do you bring for me to refute for you?

We are moving towards a larger team which comprises of 3-4 climbers who work in rotation during the week so as not to get totally fagged out and ruined and when not climbing are the grounds crew.

It works well enough with 2 climbers and a pure grounds man (retired climber)

Flat rate of pay with bonuses for larger or more difficult trees.

Result is a better paid ground crew and a ready supply of fresh climbers.

Trying to keep everybody fit, fresh and ensure everybody is better off at the same time.

Reduce down time due to injuries like tendonitis and strain.

Plus better shared understanding of the job.
