Would you do this live?

I think you were right to not finish the job without taking the necessary precautions and your employer shouldn't expect the Job to be done without them. Sorry for the doubt about the lines, just hard to see from the picture. Hope you stick to your guns and opt for the safe and correct option

You are the one climbing and know your limits and safe working practices. All electric work should be done the correct way and you will make it home at the end of the day. If your boss wants to do it then let him, don't be a fool for anybody, well done for not doing it.

Totally agree...end of the day you are the climber, if your not happy and can justify yourself then you get down and find a way to resolve the problem, I take my hat off to you for sticking to your guns, there's far to many people in the industry that take risks to please others..

Did the job get finished in the end? Employer get a mewp in?

No MEWP, but the job was finished live by another climber today. Each to their own I suppose, but I stick by my original decision. I just think it isn't worth the risk when for a little bit of organisation you can get the line shutdown/earthed for free...

This is just daft why would you do it without a shutdown?? To make a few quid and risk you're business and climbers lives I'm presuming some of these guys will end up with a Darwin Award or a lack of business when the DNO fines you so much you'll need to sell you're house. I know I wouldn't want 1kv (probably 415v) coursing through me I also wouldn't like to rescue my mate with 1kv running through him too

The risk of death is one thing.

The other risk is popping the line and UKPN or whoever billing you to sort it is another?

£10k. Unreasonable? You can't go and get other quotes and your insurance company will politely tell you to f off.

Leave power line work to the UA lads with the right kit and knowledge.

You made a good call in my opinion mate.
