Hi all, I've Been climbing on a prussick and blakes for 2 years now and wanted to progress onto the hitchclimber, I had a go with what I was told was a swabish and the knot just wasn't right for me, I'm a big lad and found it was slipping and I was constantly having to set it all the time, anyone know of a better knot and one ideal for a bigger lad, cheers in advance.

Right well i'm a big lad!! 6ft 5" and 15stone! I use a hitch climber and love it! I have tried many knots and I like a fair few! If you get 3m of hitch cord, cut it in half and then tie a single fishermans in each end then I find this is the perfect length for a Howard Hitch, the wear is very localised like the Knut so watch that but it is a very nice knot! Used to climb on a Schwabish with beeline eye to eye and silverstreak eye to eye and found that the knot twisted my rope a hell if a lot and also made it milk! Tried the Distel and it is an incredible knot. There is a fair bit of sit back though if you use an eye to eye cord but if yoyu are cutting a length of cord for it then you can obviously change the length. I am on a Knut at the minute with beeline and i have a knut on my side strop too with a pinto pulley. I have noticed that when accending long distances with a pantin this keeps the knot free from the rope and i think the cord has worn a bit as it isn't grabbing so watch the wear. I have found it tricky to tie with the eye to eye cords but thos may also be because I am using 13mm rope. Hope this helps! In short the Howard Hitch, Distel and Knut are the best knots IMO. The VT is good if you can get it set right. Being a big lad I find that hard to get it to grab enough to hold me and then not too tight that I can't decend.
