Who would buy a chainsaw off eBay?

I've bought saws off of eBay, mostly ok but one bad. I got a full refund through PayPal for the bad one as the vendor's description of it had been completely misleading, describing a saw that was fine apart from a broken starter recoil spring rather than the seized piece of scrap that it was. He made a big fuss, saying it was described as spares or repair, but he must have known he was in the wrong as he never asked for it back after the refund.

I have bought quite a few saws from ebay over the years. Normally its 200 toppers or husky`s the same as we run. I never expect anything from them other than the sum total of the parts that keep what we have going. If they prove better than that its a bonus but dont be disappointed if they are knackered..

eBay is fine, and so are other sites, though I will agree ebay has gone a bit mental lately for chainsaw prices, it's all about basic trading skills and using some old common sense though.

 

I have picked up some good buys from ebay, including chainsaws and just picked up a nice Husky from gumtree from a nice chap in wales who refurbishes old forestry commission saws, he still has some bargains if anyone is interested. So, to anyone who disagrees, it's alright for me.

 

Example: Old stihl 028, bought for £100 from a genuine ebayer (there's a difference). Put on new bar and chain, sweet, lasted me a year earning over a grand and chopped up all my fire wood, with ease. Oil pump blew this winter, bummer, but sold it for spares for £75, sold bar and chain £30, added £45 and got a capable old pro Husky.

 

We can't all be given, find, or afford some of the great newer examples we see on here, but there are some great older saws about on ebay and the like.

Bought an 020t about a year ago for 200 and hasn't missed a beat. Worth the risk at such a low price to be honest. Id do it again but wouldn't risk much more than 200 just in case

I've got a 201 201t 261 441 all new from eBay shops the 441 I got at cost price £581 inc vat and delivery from a shop in Wales 2010 never had fuel in it never had a problem in all the time I got stuff from eBay just do some research into the seller

Interesting that he now lives in Belfast according to this advert from the original Husqvarna 540 XP post, as opposed to Cleethorpes as above.

 

Interesting also that he demands feedback and claims to have feedback chasing problems when he has no positive feedback

 

Interesting that he claims that "Ebayer of lately tend not to read" when he clearly cannot spell and has little knowledge of grammar.

 

Once you have paid him he will be gone and you will not even have a serial number to check!
