Would you advise against getting a stein cube then nifty

 

My stein cube poked a rod through the corner after about the third day.

However, that was three years ago and it hasn't got any worse.

My Stein cube also poked a hole through itself quite early, but too late to send back. Had it almost 2 years now and hasn't got worse but is not holding up anywhere near as good as some of the guys at the yard. I know my next cube purchase.

I've just bought some skyline 1.8 mm seems quite good and i'm liking the lighter bag ( stein 8 oz ).

I've spliced a length of cheap red stuff on the ends so i can break it if its gets stuck.

I think next time i'll just cut a few strands to weaken it.

I've got a basic bag with 50mts of Marlow 2mm line. This is as good as I will need when throwing from the ground. However after struggling a bit recently to advance climbing line up through canopy as I'm climbing and getting the normal throw bag/kit tangled while I dangled I've improvised a bit and made this. Its about 10 metres of cheap nylon rope about 5mm diameter in a small cotton bag with a fishing weight 4 oz attached. The spherical weight is about 2cm across. Weighs next to nothing and can be carried with me. I think it will be a lot easier to make short advances to narrow crotches or to place a pull line higher. I realise lead shot has a slight safety issue but I wanted enough weight with a smaller size to reduce snagging etc. Will try not to brain myself.

Yep that's a good thing to have with you, especially in massive awkward trees.

I can think of nothing worse than having a throw line on my harness or using it in the tree. I can see myself boiling over just thinking about it. I'd rather throw a line from the ground,if I can't isolate the limb then srt it is.

Ye the stein ones are sh*te, I bought one at the arb show in June and its already got the poles poking out

I got a weaver cube to complement my ageing falteimer...cheaper than the stein and holding out well!!! Stein throw bags are good value and hard wearing tho!!!

I use my old fly fishing rod with a heavy line and a big old lead weight!!! Never managed to catch a fish but knocked out a couple of groundies over the years!!!
