The Lez was a big problem when it started because you needed a van around 4-5 years old. Now you can get something back as far as 2002 which is 12 years old. The rules for HGV are far worst it has forced some companies around here to change their trucks every year or pay £500 a day.

Heres the situation: Letter from VOSA says I am not allowed to take my hilux into the low emission zone in London, if I do its a straight £1000 fine, reason is that they are trying to keep the air in London free of the crap that comes out of my exhaust as it don't have a catalytic converter. Ok fair enough But if I pay £100 per day for a permit I can go in??????????? Does anyone know why £100 would change the situation apart from being another money making scam on the motorist?

It`s £200 if you want to go in with a non LEZ truck, think yourself lucky at £100:001_tt2:

Joking aside, paying your money wont make your vehicle more better on emissions, so as you say making money from the motorist again, or have your hand forced to change your vehicle, once most people have buckled in and changed vehicles to stop paying, they'll move the emission level again, and so it all starts again, (granted they tell you the dates in advance).

How long before other cities/towns start this, for a quick cash boost, off the back of the environment?

I bought a newer van, large capital outlay, but nicer to drive.

Also much more economical, and gives a better impression when you pull into customers drive.

I had driven and maintained crap for years, so nice only worrying when the next oil change is.

Blame the EU guys.

EU are taking UK government to court for not meeting EU set limits on air pollution. The agreed limits were supposed to been have met by 2010. London is currently on course to meet the target limit sometime around 2025 at the current rate of progress.

So the knee jerk reaction to try and dance to the tune of these Brussels edicts, is to hammer your old filthy polluting jalopies hard and where it hurts most, in your pockets! I guess the incentive is, that either you will scrap your old polluters and replace them with something more enviro friendly or to chase you out of town so you can pollute the countryside instead.

Until Brussels take us to court for that, & then the government may charge an eye watering fine (Road Tax fee) if you want to keep on driving them anywhere in the UK.

Yet another reason for the UK to leave the EU?

I dont understand this lez malarky. Our old truck goes through the required emissions test quite comfortably but because the engine is not on the accepted list it cant be allowed in the zone. :confused1: To me a pass is a pass so whats that all about. This brings me to the next load of cods, we have an annual contract in Richmond for the mulcher but because the truck is not allowed in the zone I drive the truck in as far as i can and the tractor driver then takes it into the zone causing havoc in the AM traffic. I then drive back and return later to collect him. I have now doubled the amount of fuel and pollution to achieve the same job and it costs the council more as well.
