LEZ london

I have a real bug bear with the LEZ as I used to live within the zone when they changed the rules to smaller commercial vehicles & had to get into debt to replace a very good vehicle that passed emissions test every year. It has put quite a few companies out of business & some in serious amounts of debt to comply, yet you can smoke around in a V8 chelsea tractor or 6.5 l V12 merc which have by design got to be more polluting than an older 2.5 diesel. Just another kick in the nuts to the self employed & business owners.

I never looked at it that way and you are right. The last few weeks we had our 53 plate compliant disco van it was on its way out and smoking around oxford street.

Just mailed TFL about getting a RB44 to check if it was ok to drive in LEZ' date=' seeing as there are no filters for it, and it is an ex military truck and a specialist 4X4, but a straight no came back, but if I reg it as Ag I think it would be ok? How does that work?[/quote']

Agriculture is a law unto their own , I still don't understand how a vehicle that spews out poisonous gasses and are a threat to all living life (my hilux:laugh1::laugh1:) and is banned from the clean atmosphere of London can all of a sudden pose no threat whatsoever if I pay £100? Has there ever been a more blatant money making scheme?

Yes road tax. They dont spend it on the roads. We all work for the government when you get out of bed 75% of your effort goes to them 80% if you drive a Lancdruiser

A friend of mine owns a business about 100 yards outside the LEZ & runs a 2001 plate ranger which has the same engine as a 2002/2003 yet he cannot enter. Be warned though, TFL will be changing the rules again in the near future so that only euro 4 engined commercials will be allowed to enter unless fitted with a VOSA approved particulate filter which you then have to get emission tested each year by VOSA at a cost of around £35 as well as MOT emissions test.

When are the rules changing again? At the moment 04 plate transits seem ok but what about <7.5 tonne trucks like iveco how recent a model would I need to buy?

The LEZ punishes small businesses. Big national fleets just allocate their new lorries to London runs and routes the older dirtier lorries elsewhere.

I had to sell a perfectly good hiab lorry and buy a newer one.

The largest polluters are buses, but these are exempt.

We are weak willed compared to the French, they would not put up with this. I am told that when they implemented wheel clamps, they took it upon themselves to super glue any wheel clamp padlock in situ and the authorities gave up.

The cameras are too high to put out of action!
