I don't want to dwell on this one point too much, but if my business was a family and that families running costs were in excess of 30 million a year you'd have to be pretty bloody thick to keep supporting them... it's all by the by really though as a friend informed me earlier that though salmon is keen to cause many a ruckus, ousting the royal family is a step too far in his opinion?

 

Just giving my 2 pence. I liked the analogy that Scotland is a bit liked a neglected partner, a desire to walk away from the relationship was voiced and largely ignored until the bags were packed; at which point there was some shouting about how you COULDN'T leave, how you'd be stupid to leave, you'll never cope, but there's comparatively little talk of why England needs Scotland?

 

I dunno, it's all too much for me really. I'm a tree surgeon, not a politician. I thought we payed them to sort all this crop out for us? I expect there are many, many motives I don't have a clue about as to why people are pushing yes/no, at the end of the day I just want to climb trees though...

One thing that this discussion, and many others, have proved to me is that if you are voting with your head then you really have to vote no as no one can say exactly what a yes vote will entail. There's a lot of conjecture, and it seems from politicians on both sides, outright lies. But there are very few hard facts and, for me at least this means I am leaning towards a no vote.

That said I fully understand that in an election for independence that voting with your heart may be the only way you can go, facts aren't always the most important thing.

What you have got to think of is if things don't go to plan, can you afford another long term economic downturn

If Scotland is costing so much money and is a huge drain on the economy why is the Westminster government desperate to keep us. If the oil is running out as fast as they say it is you would think they would be quite happy for us to get Independence and be shot of the liability. Maybe someone is telling huge porkies?

I'm English(with some distant scots ancestors). I've lived in Scotland for over 15 years after moving from kent.

 

The difference that I see is this

 

Scottish are generally socialist.

South of England are tories

North of england become more socialist

 

the present system in the uk balancies itself over time swinginging from labour to tory

 

Labour spend it on social policies

tories cut the social spending and restore the financial system..rich become richer and poor get stuffed.

 

anyway it kinda works....unless your poor.

 

If scotland becomes independent then we are all stuffed in both countries.

 

Scotland will spend too much

England will be run by fat cats and the poor will be stuffed for ever.

 

Scotland will need to swing further to the right and england will need to learn to look after those in need and hold back the tories more.

 

Enough ranting.
