any saw can be used one handed, it's simple, you just let go of the front handle whether in a tree or on the the ground.

it's up to the user to get the positioning right and not **** up and get kickback.

its all down to user error

we need to stop being so pathetic

Look I was just trying to make the how and why clear to someone with a question, frankly I don't give a rats.

If you want to bitch at someone I believe the HSE wood sector is still at Kennilworth.

I must have been doing this too long is this top handle thing has slipped from memory:001_huh:

Well here is the difference, top handled saws can be used one handed which means more kick back, that was the problem the HSE had a bee in their bonnet about. They accept that, with proper work positioning one handed use is acceptable in the tree because its often the only option. The same can not be said of work on the ground. Paulo Bavveresco (spp) did a contract research report for the HSE when he worked for Treevolution.

The HSE has a duty to intervene and that's what they did.

Yep,kick back is the killer and someone new to top handled saws who has not been trained gets lulled into a false sense of security when using it one handed on the ground.

Thats why they shouldnt be on e bay, to possibly maim the unwary purchaser, imho.

I don't aim my posts to bitch at you mate, I'm sorry if that's how it looks, I do get your point and the valid point your raised in your first post.

this country and it's blame and claim culture is to blame, if were not so pathetic in trying to pass the buck you question would be irrelevant.

it's not, so I do see your point and it always pays to try and cover your back and be cautious and not leave your self open to claim.

but seriously at end of day whether a professional arborist or not you have nothing to fear by selling a top handle saw on eBay or even privately, it would take a hell of a lawyer and some really bloody numb defence to hold you or any one else responsible for some other persons actions with a bit of equipment!

just as long as it was sold in good safe working order, that's your only responsibility!!!!

would you play with chemicals that you know nothing about?

so why use a dangerous bit of equipment?

Is it only the UK where this is an issue?

Was the H.S.E. ruling due to a one off accident?

There was a knee jerk reaction with electrical installations in kitchens and bathrooms. This I believe was after an MP's daughter was electrocuted in a kitchen.

Was the top handle legislation down to multiple deaths or maiming incidents, or just one event?

As far as I can make out I am able to use my older top handle on the ground, but cant use a newer one, is that correct.
