If its going to be proper market

It needs to be perfect

Nice sealed paper bag, with right amount of mini logs would be 100%

Supply paper sack with bagged up logs inside, just open sack and chuck one on, all nice and clean ......

The only problem I can see with having them in paper bags is that if they get wet they will just rip apart.

But it would be a very neat and tidy product if you could do it!

Anyone with one of these willing to post any measurements or specs? I think I'm wondering if I could make one to run of a small engine or maybe even 3 phase. Think I can figure most sizes off the video on page 1 but input speed and power would be useful so I can figure out if it's doable for cheap. Thanks.

the second one is different to the first.

the first one has. only one turning roller, the top part is an anvil, and as its run on a small petrol engine it is belt driven to allow for jam to let the belt slip rather than stall out the engine.

the second runs on a pto system so if a jam happens (and not likely due to the power of the tractor) it slips on the pto gearbox not the gears on the logger.

got to say they both look somewhat easy to fabricate up. a good lathe and some decent metals. would also need housed bearings. and a milling machine to make the holes in the 3/4 inch plates.

i would also imagine the blades are hardened and tempered. this owuld also need a furnace or gas tortch.

Just thinking it's something I could make myself, as much as a project as for the finished piece of kit.

Think I've worked out rough sizes, number of teeth, blades etc from the vids. Typical input speed and power would be useful, to size an engine or motor, and the appropriate belt drive ratio to the gears.

Cheers

Been folowing this thread with interest and i think the lowest price was £900, from what i have seen most of the gears etc should be off the peg items but the cutting heads would have the be farmed out to a metal fabricator. The length of log is determined by the diameter of the cutting heads and ALL gears will have to be keyed or splined onto their shafts to keep them in sequince, the trailing blade looks like it does the final chop then flicks the log out of the machine, Dave NE ex clockmaker

What about if you could stick the whole bag in, put a match to the bag and the lot gets going like with those bags of BBQ charcoal you get. Obviously need to be a smallish bag but could be a good way to start a fire and would burn for a bit before any more wood was required.

2 problems I can think of with that is whether it would be possible to get enough heat in the bags material for the wood inside to catch well enough. And the 2nd thing is that lighting the fire could turn in to a major expense if you were using a bag every time at say even a couple of quid! Maybe my version of your idea is best left on the shelf :laugh1:
