The Mower Bench

I had one of the funniest calls today.

"I am trying to change the oil on my new JD mower. Have drained out all the old, poured in some more but am not sure how much I need. The dipstick does not work "

How do you answer that?

I'd guess you said something like 'The dipstick is working just fine' Then put the phone down, on said Dipstick.:001_smile:

No idea! What did you manage to say without laughing?

I just mumbled about it needing half a litre, and assured him that the dipstick would indeed work. Said I have never had a dipstick break down in all my years at the job, they are pretty reliable.

Question for the mower experts I've got a Mountfield 1640H TCL 102 Hydro and it refuses to start all I get is an annoying buzzer sound. There is no extra lights on on the dashboard. Checked the seat switch and its OK. Just looking for some pointers.

Cheers Callum

Have you checked fuel/fuel line /filter or even air filter if that's blocked it won't go.

Spark plug?

Take the spark plug or plugs out and see if it turns over faster and if the buzzing has done.

If it sounds electrical like a buzzer it might be low battery voltage as suggested by Barrie or a safety switch alarm?

If is sound like a jammed electric motor then that's want it is!

so removing the spark plug should help you to confirm this.

If this helps it sounds like a decompressor problem or valves.

If the motor is still having a hard time turning the engine check the belts are not dragging or jammed.

Call me in working hours 07568 108953 when you are with the mower.
