I had a quick go at a video for cleaning those Honda carbs. Its not too clear and a little out of focus but I did not have time to do it again.

 

Its a quick clean without taking out the welch plug.

Especially love the use of the Allen key as I've tried getting one of those little sods out before and gave up.

Yeah, they can be right sods, even with the Allen key trick. The one I chose this morning was not the easiest, just when I wanted it to look slick!

Following on from Spuds hugely successful 'whats on my bench' thread, which is primarily for small 2 stroke kit, I wonder if a similar thread for mowers may be of interest?

 

It will include mowers, both walk behind and ride-on, and will cover common faults and repairs.

 

By reporting on strengths, and weaknesses of various machines it could also act as a kind of review to assist potential buyers of any models featured.

 

Is this going to be of interest to anyone, either techies, or users?

MTD ride on.-personal bring back from the dead project.deck off de-rusted and primed.welding 2mm steel sheet over holed areas.new to mig welding. Using. 6mm wire-not sure if. 8mm wire would be better.deck is 2mm patch is 2mm.would you use 2mm or a thinner gauge? Would you patch on top like me or cut out and drop new in (harder to do i imagine) .any deck welding tips?

Looks an excellent job Mike:thumbup:.

 

But to be honest, I try to keep away from patching decks, as in many cases once you start, you have to keep welding and chasing rust every year.

 

Plus, as you have no doubt found out, it consumes a lot of time, so at my dealership rates its really not cost effective long term. Best, in my opinion, to fit a new deck shell now and be able to guarantee the work.

That makes sense barrie. This is a labour of love, yep gobsmacked at how long it took.am not sure of the mtd model no: its a briggs 11hp engine but at a guess do you think a new deck would even be available?
