Well Mark is there ever a right time to go it alone? sometimes I think you just have to jump in and do it, the main reason I asked these questions is I have only ever used two types of chipper and wanted a larger overview of what people's opinions on other machines out there was best.

I am 52 and if I don't do it now then I will never do it.

Make the jump, you won't look back! I did and it was the best decision ever!

 

Anyway I just wanted to make another point. Depending on the scale of what you are doing it may be worth looking at the smaller chippers like the timberwolf 125 or greenmech 130. You need to consider your business plan and costings for monthly repayments. If you have this money available in a lump sum it is better (in my experience) to NOT pay out in one lump and instead spread the cost. This way you will have capital for other stuff (such as a box structure on the truck once you have it) and also give you a fall back when work is lean.

 

If you, like me, plan to do other stuff other than just tree surgery then look at a smaller chipper - the greenmech i mentioned above is featured here in this short video I did of ours, keep meaning to do more but never have the time!

For £20K you being an oldie and presumably having a pre 97 licence you could get a 6 toner and a real chipper! Would need an O licence, but worth it IMO.

If you can afford the 190dh get it over the 150 it ill make your life so much easier and earn you more money in the long run!

 

I run an Iveco daily 45/15 it think it is 5.5T down rated to 3.5t so it has plenty of power!

 

Ivecos can tow 3.5t as well which is handy as my vermeer 935i is just shy of 2t

He's got earplugs and eye protection, not sure a helmet is required for chipping:001_smile:

I would get the Jensen 528di that is on Arborcuts website,a transit or iveco truck to pull it with.Thats if my work was mainly in town.

 

If at least half of my work was in the Country,I would buy a Jensen 528 or 530 tracked machine.

We run a timberwolf 150 and have just bought a new Jensen 530, the Jensen is an amazing machine, so much so that I would not buy another timberwolf until they sort out the rotor bearing design.

We have a landrover tipper, a great bit of kit but lacking on chip capacity.

See if you can get hold of a peugeot boxer lwb tipper with a 3 ltr engine, we run one and it's great.
