Log burners, questions etc

I used to sell them and found that dovre , franco belge, morso and jotul were top quality cast iron burners and villager and Charnwood the better steel options at the cheaper end of the market. Most modern burners burn really clean these days so you shouldn't have much of a problem in smoke-free areas.

Slightly random question for those that have a log burner that heats water as well as providing direct heat. What do you do in Summer when you want a shower / hot water?!

I assume you still have to light the burner, but doesn't that make the living room (or wherever the stove is sited) uncomfortably hot? Or would you light the burner early in the day, heat a storage tank or thermal store, then shower from that as and when needed with the stove off and the living room cool? Just a thought...

Solar thermal panel connected to coil on cylinder - its a perfect combo with a boiler stove! Can be done for a pretty reasonable price too.

Does that heat water to shower temperature and what do you call a reasonable price?

We have one panel on our roof and on a sunny day it will heat our 200 litre tank to 55+ degrees . On a cloudy day it heats to 45+. In the winter it does not heat much but we have the stove on!

You can get the kits from here and fit them yourself:

high-spec solar kit - 1x20 tube 47mm panel

Cheers for putting up the link!

Wife has just pointed out that we hardly get any sun here!😞

I'd avoid Franco Belge - some of their designs are just awful to look after. They used to be a decent stove but the company got bought out by someone else I believe. you really shouldn't have to half dismantle something just to sweep it - if you do - then it's a poor design.
