Well im very glad to report they have agreed to supply all the bits including a new axle and will pay the labour invoice of the guy im getting to fit it all who lives 5 minutes away.So as many of you said...... nothing to fear. The guy sounded horrified and generally very apologetic.

I guess thats the result you would expect from a quality dealer. Thank god i didnt go for a cheaper privately sold one.

I think i'll be sleeping soundly tonight.

Thanks guys for making me smile last night in this thread, i was pretty close to stressing out badly.

tw are renound for bearing failures. always have a spare set in the workshop it will save hassle time and money. ive repaired two tw with wheel bearing issues in the past 6 months.

neither had a bent axle tho. not that i could make out.

it takes a few seconds to grab hold of the wheel int he morn and rock the machine to check they are in an ok state. either that or jack it up and wobble the wheels.

Couple of things- one, top marks to the dealer. Anyone reading this thread will be happy to use them I should think.

Two, it just crossed my mind, if you are adjusting wheel bearings, err on the side of too loose than too tight when choosing where to stick the pin in the castellated nut. Ever slightly overtightened bearings will fail very quickly.

A bit of play and a free spinning wheel is better than no play but a slightly dragging bearing!
