qestion was advised by Ea yesterday moving some conifer that i needed a waste transfer licence to move and had to go to a registered tip. but when at tip guy said that as of febuary wood chip will be classed as waste and a waste transer ticket will be required to carry it £150 a year.

also leaves collected from pavments are classed as toxic waste andhas to be disposed of at a registered tip that can take hazerdous waste. is this true or is it a load of cobblers on both counts. be interested in the facts

Can't help -sorry, but can't you use the Arboricultural exemption certificate?

Our local authority carts all its leaf/road sweepings to the neighbouring borough, where it is composted. So is it toxic?

We re-cycle our chip - or others do -so I'm not sure where we stand, although we do have a licence. The next problem is which boxes are you meant to tick for the category of waste as the list is enormous and confusing.

virgin timber is timber from: whole trees and the woody parts of trees including branches and bark derived from forestry works, woodland management, tree surgery and other similar operations (it does not include clippings or trimmings that consist primarily of foliage)

virgin timbers are not a waste and are not subject to waste regulatory controls provided they are certain to be used for purposes to which virgin wood is commonly put.

That is directly quoted from the EA position statement on the environmental regulation of wood.

I recommend finding a copy and keeping it in your van to show anyone who wishes to bamboozle you into paying for waste licenses!

The advice from the EA is spot on and should be taken to heart.

The advice from the bloke down the tip, not so much so:laugh1:
