Spuds Porting and Tuning Thread

I was wondering what had happened to you Chris, thought you had left the country or got arrested or something:lol: Glad it meets with approval -I like happy customers:thumbup:

 

:biggrin: It took til Sunday night for me to finally get round to making the mahoosive 15 minute trip to Mum and Dad's to pick it up :blushing:

 

Run about 20 litres or so through it now and I just can't put it down - it really is that good :thumbup1:

 

Buzzsurgeon ran a tank through it yesterday and I didn't think I was going to get it back :lol:

Always good to get the feedback - it is strange going back to a standard saw though - they just seem very laid back:lol:

Can't see much if any between the two mate :) seriously if the 560 was dropped back to 325 and and 18 it would be identical I would of thought?

I used a brand new 560 the other day on that set up and it was a lot faster than my tired old one.

The 357 has an extra 500 rpm as stock though, so whilst the 560 has .3kw more power for an extra 4cc, it's still slower! You put the hyway big bore kit on and that difference would narrow down considerably, the only difference then is the transfer shape. Porting either the standard or big bore cylinder for 20% gains would put both over the power rating of a 560, and you have more rpm!

Martin has another vid where 3 357's two modded go up against my 560 and none are quicker.

I'm not saying that a modded one is not quicker but it had to have some serious mods not just an exhaust and port job.

 

Steve I will give you mikes number if you want a 560 to play against.

From our "boys day out", my 357 was 0.4 secs slower than the 560 on 3 cuts with mine on a 17" and Mattys on a 15", since then I have opened up the exhaust a fair bit more and shortened the bar so should be pretty much the same if not a little quicker. My saw has a pop up as well as a muffler mod and the porting. The 560 has a lot of go and wins out on the fact it readjusts in the cut for bogging where the standard tune needs to be backed off a little to get back on the power band!

 

I am doing an 066 now that should hopefully go like a bat out of hell....or bang:001_rolleyes::lol: An interesting project that will probably break arms starting it!

If a ported 357 can not outcut your 560, then it's not the 357's fault - that's the porter's fault. A competently ported 357 with compression adjustment will crush even a muffler modded 560.
