If all your stumps are proper wee articles then by all means.

Every tool has it's place I'll grant you that but I personally wouldn't want to be grinding for more than a couple of hours with that machine even at the level I was 3 years ago.

A 25/27hp machine REALLY earns some coin and enables the user to grind with profit ALL day.

Stumps that belong to the 13hp category are from trees felled by gardeners and these jobs I don't get.

you can easily do a 2ft stump with a carlton 900 with a decent greenteeth setup, infact when I bought my first grinder id tackle anything and did a 38inch beech stump in under 3 hours, it just depends how much you like hard work

 

you obviously know far more than myself about the subject though

38" is 96cm and would be an hour for an HB20

The Carlton 900 with green teeth is a cracking machine.

Here's mine tackling a 3' mac stump.

 

It is hard work, and grinding depth can be an issue, but I'm really pleased with it. The portability is a massive plus.

 

Stevo did 40 stumps in a day with it before Christmas, not massive ones obviously.

I think the one of the points that John is trying to make is that you cant buy a good 27hp self propelled machine (like the HB20) for £2-3k like the thread requests.

 

Although I agree with all the advantages of the bigger machine, I can see the benefits of being able to manhandle the smaller machine around difficult obstacles.

Hi John I would prefer a 20+ hp as I've used 13 hp machines *husky and rayco

and didn't find them much good so really want a bigger machine.

 

Tbh we are looking for a machine that will earn its money back. And we are not bad with spammers and a grease gun.

I used to use my old gaffers 20hp Rayco with finger teeth and the Carlton with green teeth is vastly superior.

There are good machines out there for £2-3k you just have to be careful what you buy.

Look I've had my dosko for approx 4 years...I forget exactly how much I payed for it but it was around the £2500 mark.

Engine is sweet to this day, I've replaced the bearings once, hydro belt lets go probably every 9 months cheap anyhow, the most expensive thing I've replaced is the cutter wheel at about £200 odd.

I guess what I'm trying to say is as long as the engines good, the other parts really are not that expensive.

The old girls payed for itself over and over again.
