yes i do climb with a splice

now to work out how to retrieve the thing

 

very easy onto soft ground rope goes through bottom shackle before going round pulley

or if wanting to lower my fav is a climbers chalk bag with throwline in and when either pruned one side or at the end clip it to rope guide and thow the bag out over canopy of tree

hope that makes sense

so you hitch the ball retriever through spliced eye, it pulls through pully and hits shackle

 

you got it sir

though splices often get stuck as well if it comes easy though depend on splice and shrink tubing

also if you cinch it up tight it will not retrieve the more slack the easier it retrieves
