As far as I know you were entirely legal and as it was your tree doing the right (and public-spirited) thing.

 

Thank you for that Treewolf, but the days of being public spirited are being eroded by health and safety, insurance and fear of litigation.

Used to clear snow, pull people out of ditches in the middle of the night, give people a tow, let them leave a vehicle in a barn etc, but no more.

 

There is a body of people who feel empowered by creating a raft of rules which if you spent time keeping up with, you would never find time to work.

Me and wolfie had a good one yesterday

There was nothing aboth this tree no rigging point no anchor point everything was on the level

Job was to do as little damage to the chestnut it was hung up in

We got to 1.30 looked like we was not going to get this tree done in a day

I was getting *****of with this tree so ended up cutting the but and crashing the whole lot out :lol: didn't do much damage to the chestnut just 26inch branches we had to clean up

Couldn't agree more. I tend not to subscribe to that club though, just help people as a decent human should..........just hope that argument stands up in my defence! But I am insured and have a good relationship with the NFU, who tend to be a tad more robust with mickey takers.
