If you need to enter a low emission zone like London, you'll need a td5 registered after 2002. The 300tdi isn't allowed in - unless it has a particulate filter. Td5's can be mapped my respectable tuners to 200bhp & about 400 nm of torque, so towing isn't a problem ever.

My advice would be to not spend your full budget on the vehicle and keep some back for repairs. My mechanic who is a land rover specialist reckons your sometimes better buying cheaper and spend the rest of the cash putting it right. At least you know those problems are fixed and done with!

I have a TD5 which I think is a far better engine and goes a lot better after chipping and hybrid turbo!

Hi Jon, my td5 was mapped the gods at JE engineering.

I've had the stage 1 map (£275) - 175 bhp & 395nm torque, tempted by the stage 2 map (£850) - larger intercooler, race air filter & map gives 195 bhp & lots of torque Matt.

I had jap stuff then went on to a LR defender 90 is was a grate pice of kit off road but I was constantly repairing it I don't know whether it was an older vehicle (1994) 200tdi or not. Subsequently back with the jap stuff and more than happy. my advice would be to make sure the bulk head and rear outriggers are solid and good look.

Careful what you do with the DPF on the more modern motors lads, it's on the MOT from feb 14 to check it has the original DPF in the exhaust

ok so i have bought myself a 1993 110 tdi 200 it needs a few bits doing to it from the advisory off the mot and some stuff that will mess with my ocd. i believe i have got it for a good price witch leaves me some spare cash for a box of spanners and bits like mentioned by on of the guys lol. where do you get your parts and bits from.

 

its fitted with a camper on the back witch is coming off and going on ebay so iam gona let it earn me some money before i convert it an get it tarted up. with the obvious lubes and oils change anything else recommended when i get it ?

Parts I normally use either island 4x4, AEW paddock or john craddocks

 

Just need to pay for the right quality of parts as the cheapest ones in a blue box are not always any good
