i've seen someone with a scar from a chainsaw going through the protection and cutting him albeit a jacket and on his arm but the photos were enough to make you think

Indeed, if I thought I was going to cut my leg I would quit.

The protection in ppe is VERY limited.

When I first left collage I was made to spike up a Syc with no ropes for line clearence, had the saw in one hand at full revs and kicked back into my right calf. I was wearing type c trowsers and the saw cut right through and cut my leg. none of the blocking material pulled out as I hit the seam.

so why wear A,s then

Because I don't find they affect my ability to do my work and if I am unfortunate enough to make a mistake they will hopefully reduce the amount of damage done.

But I certainly don't put them on and then think great now I'm safe.

come on! how can a risk assessment justify not wearing type c trousers?:confused1:

As you say, mention the heat, but you would then go on to say how you will avoid having the saw in a position that puts unprotected areas at risk, work positioning etc.
