You edited my response to suit your needs:thumbdown:

How many people do you know that have had homes compulsory purchased?

Yes I know it happens, I got my first job on the roads on the back of it (A50) bypass in Stoke. But let's be fair, it's few and far between.

Anyway, about that hostel close to your kids school........

Billy,

Spot on with your assessment.

Ditto Eggs.

Re the morgage "trap"

We were horrified at the notion of lumbering ourselves with 25 years debt.

Cos with a pocket calculator we were able to work out what we were paying for the priveledge.

So we worked double jobs, paying PAYE tax on both in each case.

Saved, ran only one rough car that I maintained.

Bought second hand furniture, etc.

But still went on 3 week camping hols to Europe each year.

Then in 1987, bought a small timber frame (and unpopular in NI) house for cash.

Lived in it while still holding down 2 jobs each, then bought a good developer built home in 1990 (though back then houses in ni were relatively undervalued)

Mostly our forward progress has been about NOT borrowing money, because we could see that was the road to eternal debt.

regards,

marcus

Normally you struggle with the mortgage for 7 years then as it gets easier you decide you need a bigger hutch so you increase it to the same painful level as you started. Just as you finish paying your third mortgage your body falls apart and you go in to home and they sell your house to pay for your care. I think its called the cycle of life

What planet are these people on ? A basic simple job like a shop assistant or something would probably have to work 5 years to get a years wages like that :confused1: I worked in foundries and factories all my working life and nowadays there are no jobs like that where you clock on, do your shift and then go home. It's all services and part timers doing 4 hours three days a week so they have to get tax credits and top ups or do three jobs to keep an army of bureaucrats in work in offices working out how to avoid paying them 50p too much and an army of investigators to catch the ones who screw the system.
