Afternoon all, thought this might tickle someones fancy. This Walnut is in a customer of mines garden and is looking to get something made from it, including a table top if possible. She is also interested in learning a bit about wood turning. Any suggestions? Location is near Hampton Court, Surrey.

Cheers...Phil

Nice stuff ( pricey !) did you just happen to be in the Faroes ( think that is where it is ) I would love to visit there someday .... where does he get wood from ? I think the Faroes are tree less !

aren't those a couple of small trees to the left of his house???

I have also just turned a few big bowls , ( 18" dia , 8" deep ) Ash mostly and some hollow forms from Ash , some have been scorched and other surface treatments , and another hollow form is spalted in a nice way which is not common with Ash .

dude, thats some hardcore skills, ........ awesome:001_cool:

island is almost tree less due to sheep in the past, most wood is sourced from private gardens as the turners is known throughout the island they give him a call and he removes trees free of charge, I think most of the wood in the drying room and workshop was southern beech northofagus but not sure which one though, view over water is one that can be seen from workshop window! nice

021.jpg.fef6b03ff5728c5c86f04e556d602889.jpgBeen busy recently having to supply retail outlets and galleries with work ( selling well as it is tourist season here ) bowls and hollow forms as well using woods most of you will be familiar with and some less so , many made with " faulty " wood that most turners / crafters would not be interested in but there is just so much great material in arb waste ...
