i stick to what i'm given clive, it's all from savill gardens...

there are a ridiculous number of odd species that they have planted over the years (usually by a foreign dignitary) including the odd exotic but usually weird variants on the more common ones.

take that liquidambar for example, it's not liquidambar styraciflua as that has a rough textured bark. the bark on this looked very much like beech and the only sweetgum i can find that has a smooth bark is liquidambar formosana or chinese sweetgum.

with the storms we had over xmas there are quite a few different species to pick from and i'll be getting some interesting timbers.

the robinia is not something i've had before but really like it.

Well you've gone and done it now with that comment! I've been offered several pieces at 4-5' x 18-20" that appears to be in very good condition for timber of that size. I just don't know whether it's worth the gamble of buying it and getting it milled up or selling on.

Looks like I've found my market :001_tt2: but comments from others are welcome. Clive, stop being so xenophobic; there's money at stake here!!!

you may have found your market jon but this market just ran out of money...

it sounds like it would best be milled in to small boards 2-3" and cut in to turning blanks.

i would be interested in one bit if it was already quartered.

Noted!
