When I turn bowls which are likely to come apart, I turn the outside then wrap it in tape to hold it together until the inside is turned .Then take the tape off and finish the bowl

stops you getting hit with bits flying off

Good tip that, tbh it really didn't look to me like it was going to split like that until I got the wall thinned down. Maybe I need to look a bit harder :D

OK as promised here's a few that I've turned recently, some better than others.

Colours aren't quite life like, the camera was struggling with a combination of natural and florescent light, the first one especially is very yellow.

First up is the laburnum from yesterday with some slightly better light

Next is a Yew bowl, I think I made the foot a little too narrow

A square beech platter, i painted the edges black before turning and had to round the corners due to tear out

Cherry

Tulipwood

Oak, from a rootball, quite liked this wood, I might go back and try to cut out some more but the rootball is full of stone so it could be really hard on the chain.

A beech moneybox for the other halfs plant sales trolley at the end of the drive. Its rough and ready and probably won't last too long as it will be outside but its colourful and will do its job.

Well you said keep em coming, so guess what I've been doing this afternoon.

This is elm burr. Decided to go with a natural edge, unfortunately the bark came off in one place so I then had to pick it all off to try and match it up.

Quite pleased with this one.

i cant post any finished ones at the mo as although my lathe troubles are now sorted (i hope) i'm only coring lump after lump and starting them on the road to dryness. one or two may get finished but that's it.

actually one that will be finished is going to be my biggest bowl yet being 21" wide by 10" deep...
