Yes understood I'm not thick. I know harvesters etc can work in thinning with band tracks on and leave site ok .

and yes I know how low ground pressure works and yes we have owned diggers before.

 

 

Nobody said you were thick or doubted your ability as machine owners or operators, maybe take a step back, take a breath and realise it's not always a personal attack :)

We often restore old devon banks with diggers- they have plenty of roots in them from the trees/hedge on top and often the casting up of the old bank involves slicing through extended roots- Iv never seen a dead hedge after weve done this- quite the opposite really, they flourish- i think trees are less precious then we give them credit for. Im not condoning digging up roots just making an observation.

i agree how many trees do you see windblown and still living quite well loads

Saw them as well, pity the stumps are old and small, I'd like to see it on a fresh 5" beech to see how the design worked on them.
