Exactly. You just can’t lose on a machine like that. For 8k plus a few K on basic attachments to make it more useful, grab,rake etc. Put 1500 hrs on it and sell it for £6k works out around a few quid an hour, Let’s round up to £5 an hour running cost including diesel and servicing. Try and find a labourer willing to work for that!

I’ve just ordered a flail for my cat2.7d, any tips on how to keep the thumb rocker switch engaged formworking the flail so I don’t have to hold my thumb on it all the time.  I’m not talking altering thenhydraulics and spending a small fortune, more any DIY tricks.  Cheers

Came upon this issue clearing overgrown biomass willow with the saw on the takeuchi. By the third day it was genuinely painful! Tried elastic band and cable tie (both ce certified, obviously) didn't work with the shape of the joystick.
I use a cable tie to keep the pan mixer rotating on the loadall but it's a different shape stick!
An alternative may be to cut into the loom and add a switch instead of the button, you flick the switch and have continuous flow, then use a single press of the button to kill the power to the switch, the switch would then need to be manually flicked back into place to engage the flail.
Gonna be hard to find something that allows "hands free" use of any function on a machine, it's generally frowned upon, but I can see exactly why you'd want it!
Might work, I don't know if it is possible with your machine or if there is something available off the shelf that might do this.

I though of putting a switch in, but think Stephen has a proportional switch as opposed to just on and off like in the Takeuchi, might throw up a problem  as just switching it on might not engage whatever is required in the proportional switch to engage full flow. Not sure though...

I think you need to add a 'latching relay'   in the line ,

ive only ever used the flail on my machine with the rocker switch. I had engcon set my machine up so that I could operate it on a switch as well so the flail was either on or off but can honestly say I’ve never used it

Has anyone tried thinning racks in young hardwood stands with a 5/8ton machine attached with the likes of a tiger cut grab or TMK tree sheer? I like to know if it’s efficient and any pitfalls. I have a neighbor who has an 8 ton hitachi and there’s myself and quite a few others with similar stands. I thought this may be a great system for the forest owner who just needs a few days work. Apart from the mess harvesters make in these stands there isn’t the interest in this piece meal work with the Harvester contractors due to transport and them being very busy in this locality. Advice on this would be very appreciated as this is at best a hunch that it would work and it’s quite an investment.
