This is about 25% of what the disarmingly dashing Logan has cut and is extracting from the Wood. Almost exclusively Ash.

The stems on the Right are going for milling.

Picture was taken from the top of a lorry that was picking up hurley butts. Very good return on Ash for hurleys if any of you woody folk are planning any Ash thinning.

Wow they wanted a good quantity of wood for the hurleys. When I saw the thread had visions of just a few butts. Glad it worked out and guess it paid better than going for firewood or milling.

As for those large stacks of ash that's just perfection for firewood. Never seen such straight hardwood down this way.

They are mad keen for Hurley butts over in Ireland. They have exhausted their own supplies and are having to import from Germany and Denmark as well as from the UK.

Pays hugely better than firewood, especially as they do all the work themselves, or pay someone to do it for them.

The Ash looks so good partly because Logan (the contractor and Arbtalk regular) is a perfectionist and creates very neat stacks. I've caught him several times checking the geometry with a laser level, and on one occasion de-leafing the top with his dust buster!

In all seriousness he is bloomin' good at what he does and I would recommend him to anyone.

What sort of size ash are they after?

Interesting work there village. Very tidy landing at your woods.

Thanks Rowan,

I am blessed with acres of concrete pads and roadways courtesy of the US Air force using the wood during the war.

On a slightly different note, I'm after some advice on the best way to keep the rain off my firewood cages. I can lid them all (200) individually or run some form of plastic/canvas sheet down the rows.

Anyone got any good ideas?

Many thanks, TVI.

The plan is to butt them all up in long lines.
