Got to be worth at least £150 for truck and chipper plus your wages for the day.

 

Id say the £250 mark for one man, truck and chipper is a fair price.

Dumping chip and logs is no biggy, they are both worth money and yoummust know some local sites and assuming you can use his kit when yours is broken isn't a wise idea.

I can hire a 6 inch machine for £280 a week from a hire shop

I can hire a pickup for £40 a day plus fuel obviously

Considering the circumstances and the way it is I would go £180 and you are saveing him minium £100 and he will know that a man his chipper plus van or pick up etc would be at least £250 aday.

And just to make sure let him know that you know that.Don't be silly when it comes to making money and letting someone use your kit.They won't look after it like you would and if hireing you aswell don't get a REP for being cheap.

I agree, I think it'll be better to steer him in the direction of the local hire outfit. If your machine breaks during the day, you'll be to blame. Stick to the employer/employee relationship.

What's point in hiring out your kit on the cheap? As said above will your boss fork out if it breaks?

Yes. This kind of situation goes sour.... esp the part where you put your bill in... they say.hmmmm its a bit much n knock you...

 

Needless to say i dont work for that company anymore.....

yeah its a tricky one. I can see it ending badly, but i need him as i can gradually break my days down and build my own client base. Ive worked for him for 6 years so i think he trusts me, even tho he's the most untrusting guy ive ever come across, ive never put a foot wrong so that counts for something. But realistically once my work starts building up he'll probably drop me in a second, he's a business man so everything has to benefit him, even when he makes out hes being a nice, generous boss.ITS GONNA GET COMPLICATED

But you are stepping into business, that makes you a business man too. It has to be worth your while.

 

Don't be bullied into charging a low price for the kit. Talk to him find out his thoughts. After all the first rule in any business is to manage expectations. You do that and your on to a winner.

Are you worried that if you don't see your boss ok with price on him using your kit he could be bit funny about it and make things awkward for you?

Or is he a alright kind of bloke who understands the cost of things?

f you think he could be a bit funny then that's a different issue.
