Husky t540 is the best at the moment on the market, don't mess around with Makitas and other brands except Stihl if you don't have the budget for a t540 go for the Stihl 150.

the 150 is ok for light crown reductions,a wouldnot suggest that as a first toppa...

The op is asking our advice on a first top handle. Let's leave the acquisition of the saw to him and just be helpful :)

I'd recommend the 201. Good solid saw, been about long enough now for any niggles to be sorted (which would be my only issue with the husky).

The 201 is an all round topper, whereas the 150 has it's limitations, despite being a great saw for it's intended use.

I wouldn't look at anything apart from stihl or husky (as Barry said). They're pro saws built to last.

T540 is the best I would say . ( not sure its a legal requirement to have a ticket to by a topper or any other saw come to that )

First of all find out who's your local dealer.

If its stihl then go for a stihl, this is so you can get spares easily and also if something does go wrong itll be closer to send in for warranty fixes.

Im a stihl man, and the ms150/t is a fantastic little saw but its limited to want it can do (pruning etc)

The ms201t will do the same as the 150 and then some.

If your intending to use it for weekends only ,maybe have a look at aspen2 aswell bud 👍

All the best

well if your not at college, you need to buy a saw to use on your nptc course.

The training firm should supply them if you don't have 1, you can't buy a top handled saw without tickets,

Our 201 is pants alongside the 540 we have . just an observation .....

When I first used the 201 I couldn't see what everyone's beef was with it, untill I started chogging down a cherry, guttless, soon asked for the 346 to be sent up. Yet with the 200t you will use it untill you couldn't befor you asked for a bigger saw, The 540xp is where it is at in terms of the best

Worked with a climber using a 150T today, it's noticeably lighter and slightly quieter than the 200T. After seeing it i'll be going for a 150t
