Am I too expensive??

Don't stress , some people expect it for nothing. Stand your ground and trust your judgement. I've done some terrible under estimations and under quoting in my time and have learnt. But ironically on jobs I have not wanted I have grossly over quoted and won them!!!

2 days for 700 is cheap!

Stick to your guns, doesn't sound too expensive to me. I have seen this sort of thing many a times at the end of big jobs with a company I sub too. Get a large tree down and cleared up in a day, maybe a £1000 job for arguments sake and all the client see is that 3 guys took a tree down in a day and cleared up and they want £1000 for it, what they don't take into account is the transit, tracked 190, cabstar mewp, Valtra with botex roof mount a 12 ton grain trailer, grain trailer of chip and grain trailer of logs. It all ads up but most clients never see or take that side of the job onboard when there questioning the price

2 man team +kit on domestic dismantle is 500 a day to win most jobs round here .....

any more than that and its another man day .so averageing out as 250 per man day seems to get the work.with some short days but still full price as they stop any other work being done that day.

thats just trimming....tree removal is done on size and weight along with access.we just paid 150 quid last 2 days to park the rig at the front of the property so there is allways other factors to consider.

there is often no ryme or reason when it comes to quoting. I was never asked to quote luckily but my competition load tested a 1000 kva took I day they charged £30,000 now we would have lost that job on most occasions at £1500 because we are to expensive. Came up against some one on a block of 8 generators for service quoted 6k and got it they quoted £2300.00 and lost it. we were double the nearest quote.

Spoke to another tree guy who just priced a job up locally ... Apparently I'm too expensive!! 4 years ago I had quoted £450 and my arch rival with his stolen chipper and gear did it for £280 because apparently he had told her "he new my pricing structure"because he had worked for me... I'm almost flattered but what a lying freak.. Any way he did the hedge left rubbish every where and killed her walnut !

I would be cautious about adding a charge for your machinery.. It should be your working advantage and therefore make the job easier. For example ., dragging and chipping into van and you charge extra for the chipper, customer says don't bring it (to make it cheaper) you end up stacking it and chopping it on the van. ... It's how you are going to profit by having superior gear and finishing a job quicker than the competition. Not, I've got expensive kit that I'm going to add on top of the man/unit rate.
