It must be scam time!!!

In the last few weeks I have received calls from:

 

1) A guy saying he was working with Google and could get me listed on the top five searches when people searched for firewood in ....

I had the same call last year, could have been the same guy even as they both had a strong scouse accent and when you ask them to email the info, he gets quite shirty and says he cannot do that as the opportunity is for today only and he will just ring the next person on his list - which I told him to do. This year when I told him it was a scam he get very aggressive and told me to get my facts straight before he slammed the phone down!!

 

2) A few days later, a nicey nicey guy asking for me, states he is from the Crime Prevention Team and there's nothing to worry about, but would I like to advertise in a magazine they are putting together. I told him I had a similar call last year and passed the details to a policeman customer of mine who confirmed it was a scam and .... he hung up!

Not to put a good man down, he only rang the week after, he's using the name Kevin and I said I'll tell you what I told you last week, it's a sca.....damned if he didn't hang up again!

 

3) And then just this afternoon I receive a call on the landline from somebody claiming to be working with Microsoft. She had a very Asian accent and told me my computer was running very slow (which it has been) but she could help me sort it out. I asked her how I could be sure she was genuine and she replied Microsoft get sent messages about peoples computers and they cannot deal with them all so they have other companies who assist. She asked me to switch the computer on and search msconfig in the run box which brought up programmes that were running or stopped. She then said she would have to pass me to her colleague Chrystal who was more qualified. Chrystal, also very very Asian, said she would take control of my pc. Again I asked for clarity and got the blurb about millions of microsoft users blah blah so I asked for their company name and telephone number so I could contact them - Smart Support Guys is their name and the number was 0207 1939836. I googled the number and it appears on the forums about scam numbers and apparently they go so far and then ask for money!

 

4) I don't think this one is a scam but every week I have a message on the landline about getting a bloomin' boiler replaced and states press 2 to speak to someone but that does not work. I just want them to stop ringing!!!!!

 

As a self employed person I have enough to deal with without all these hoax calls. Okay, Victor Meldrew closing down now! Where's the asprin??

I used to get all calls diverted to the mobile but had so many sales pitches I stopped the forwarding and no longer answer the landline, instead I have left a message explaining the situation to customers and ask them to leaves a message so I can return the call.

There is no doubt that these sales calls have lost me work but when I do answer the phone its alway ppi claim, advertising in sports centres or doctors surgery's, debt management ect ect ect.

A royal pita that im sure we could all do without.

Telephone Preferences Service? (Not sure if that applies to business phone lines as well as personal though). Won't stop them all, but it will help.

Yep had the crime prevention one last week. Got caught out by it a few yrs ago very naively. When he asked me last wk I said no do You realy think il fall for it again. And he quickly said goodbye and hung up. Wat low lives actualy do this. Its unbelievable realy pisses me of. Its stealing of decent hard working people.

I had an email from inland revenue saying I had a £660 income tax refund and had to register with them to claim via a link. It was blatantly a scam. These people are out waiting to steal money off you. The scammers of course not the government!

I had a call from a guy today who had the nerve to ask me to fix his chainsaw - bloody cheek:001_huh::lol:

 

You can try the telephone preference system and going ex directory to stop the ijuts getting your number on the marketing phone list - unfortunately you still need to advertise:thumbdown:

i went ex directory to stop nuisance calls and for personal reasons. did it stop the slaes people ringing when i asked how did you get my number they just hang up. as for the microsoft DO NOT let them anywhere near your pc they will put a add on which allows them to monitor your pc and get your personal details eg bank account details once they have them your bank balance will follow was on the beeb inside out south some poor lady had it done.

I've been getting the computer fixers a lot lately. At the weekend when I said I wouldn't turn the PC on, the woman said 'up yours!' and hung up. Hardly professional conduct from a pro scammer
