True in hindsight the defender weighs around 2 tonne and is not great for towing 3.5 tonnes it does have the edge on alot of the double cabs because it has permanent 4 wheel drive. The new discos are better as they weigh far more

My 57 plate 90 has a gvw of 2.6t. It's great for towing but a good idea to have a bit of ballast for 3.5t towing. Gets a bit hairy if you're on a dual with nothing weighing the truck down

We have a ranger and an Isuzu which are fine for general day to day work but if you need to tow anything or actually go off road then it has to be a LR everytime.

that depends on what you call of roading kev :001_rolleyes:,mi old nissan didnt do to bad of road, only had the dmax in puddles so far , dont want to get it dirty just yet :laugh1:

Well, I'm looking for single or super-cab and the extent of the off roading will be towing the 1.2t chipper over a field or driving on grassy verges. Things a Transit can't do unless the ground is baked solid.
