Which pick up can tow 3.5t?

Ok so it's sounding like a bad idea to get a European type pick-up to tow a 3.5t trailer.

I suspected this so I'm glad to get this kind of feedback.

I'd like to get an F150 or F250 type pickup but worry about running costs and repair/service hassles.

Just been doing a bit of reading up on the ford F150, mostly from American forums...

The curb weight of it is 2489kg, it may have a big lump in it but I'd sooner be going down the route of a Toyota land cruiser. The F150 is sold stock rated to tow 5000lbs (2272kg) in order to increase that you have to upgrade radiators/inter coolers and purchase the uprated towing package which will allow you to tow 8000lbs (3636kg), apparently the tow package isn't cheap.

In top of all this you have a city MPG of 17. And I'd assume that repairs are going to be costly and parts hard to get hold of(this is just an assumption mind!)

In short they don't appeal one bit to me.

The dodge ram with the cummins engine is available in 4X4, goes like stink, good on fuel, can tow like a lorry, can be had as single chassis cab or dual and it can pull a serious trailer . Click on the heavy duty versions for very serious tow capacity.

But how does this work in the UK given that most I for type trailers are only rated to be 3.5t on overrun brakes?

All very well having a meaty truck but what can you tow legally anyway with these trucks.

Dodge and Rams are nice trucks and all, but are they really suitable for our industry? Yes they might be able to pull like stink but I for one would be scared to take it to work!

There not cheap, in all aspects - the outlay of buying one, running costs, mots (not many places will do them), servicing (same applies), insurance, fuel etc etc.

I wouldn't mind one for a show off car but not for a work truck!
