Engelbert Strauss chainsaw trousers - ongoing review

Work trousers by engelbert strauss

There isn't alot of info on these trousers on arbtalk/the net, so I thought a thread on my experiences may be useful to others. Especially coming from a climbers point of view .

I think the main reason I bought these was the price (£99.99+ vat compared to my usual first choice of stretch airs at £225+vat), but also Engelbert Strauss make very good quality workwear, so worth a punt!

They don't charge extra for the long leg version (ahem, stretch air..), which was another deciding factor.

It only comes as Type A front protection, but that's what I have always worn so no problem here.

I've only owned them for a few days so here's my first impressions.

They look alright (i went for the grey ones, wouldn't be seen dead in the other colour ways :laugh1:)

The material seems very sturdy, much more so than Hi-Flex and just as good as the new Steins and Stretch Airs (if not better -time will tell).

Very stretchy, it doesn't impede movement at all.

Loads of pockets, water and dirt proof zip covers.Hopefully they will last longer than 5 mins like most trousers fail to do.

Quite a handy combi-spanner pocket thing, i probably won't use it climbing, but i can see it being useful for groundies.

Zipped vents at the back of the knee area, they really work! You can feel a breeze.

I can't think of any negatives, they seem like a great buy :thumbup1:

I'll update this every so often to inform you all of their progress.

I've had a pair for two years and they've been fine.

Although as I don't do this for a living they don't get worn every day. Only problems are that the button popped off after 6 months but it was easy to put a new one on and stitching on crotch is starting to go now.

I've got a blue pair; I've been called a chainsaw gigolo :blushing: and someone on here reckoned they looked like part of a clown outfit. Think I'll go for red next time :001_tt2:

They are very comfortable and nothing's broken but then they haven't had a hard life. I do like them, make no mistake.

My only problem with the cut is that like most modern trousers the crotch is only half the depth it needs to be; the waist button pops out from under the belt buckle the whole time and if you try to lift the button you can forget about having kids.

For £100 though I think they're excellent value and from a retailer not known for their low prices. That's a euphemism.

we've used them for two years now, type 'a's. they're ok but the seams are failing and some parts where the stitching is real close to the edge of the material it has pulled away and is fraying. good value though.

I've had a pair for a couple of months now and I think they're great. I've not had any stretch air but they're certainly better than hi flex. The zips on the back of the legs are a bonus when it's hot!!
