390XP or 395XP

No Husky vs. Stihl debate!

I had an MS660, it got stolen, not interested in the 661!

 

I will, when out of warranty, get either saw ported etc so...

 

Other than the weight gain for 0.1Kw of power, why is the 395 so special?

 

Husky recommend the 390 up to a 28" bar and 395 up to a 36" i can only assume this is because the 395 has more torque?

 

Important to saw that i'll be running the replacement saw on a 28" bar.

 

Oh, and does anyone have the part numbers for the uprated felling dogs for the 390 or 395?

I have a 390xp but if I had the money and knew more when I bought it I'd have got the 395 at least that way you can run a bigger bar. As I've been told your better looking at it than for it.

I recently ported both saws, the 390XP is like a big 357XP in construction with bottom cylinder fed transfers and the 395XP has the lower transfers in the cylinder wall - same as a MS660 and many others.

 

The 390XP is lighter of the two, the 395XP out cut the 390XP using the same bar and chain - not by loads but it was faster in the cut.

Have both . 390 is on a 28" .375 and 395 is on a 36" .404 . If I only could have one it would be the 395 for the obvious bit extra grunt but both great saws .

395. I have neither saw but you'd be better off in the future only having to buy a bigger bar, not a bigger saw, for larger trees.

I run my 395 on a 36" with no problem , superb saw ! Never had a 390 as I have an old 281 .

The 390 takes well to porting, and is a direct 660 replacement. The 395 has a bit more grunt(torque). But, it also responds well to porting and runs 404 much better. Even in the pacific northwest, ported 390's rarely run a 36" bar even in softwoods. So you pretty much have got to go with that 395 for hardwood.
