Vitaras are excellent. I towed a lot more than a 6"chipper with mine. I had a carb 1.6 petrol. The injections are known for blowing ECUs at £180 a go.

They do go like stink though,

Mine was a real head turner

Snorkel on front & a custom build bike exhaust half way under 👍

Sounded sweet

Fixed that for you

But that's where I'd put my £1500 I reckon. We had one a while ago and it was great. Only sold it because we needed something more "normal" for SWMBO to go to work in when she started orking further away

Discoveries are great but usually need welding doing on the bodies.

Jimny might not tow a huge amount (can't remember exactly but sure it was around 1.25T) but do handle it OK.

Better on fuel tan a vitara too.

Only problems we discovered to be common (an might only apply to the pre VVT ones) were the bottom pulley delaminates (£100 from suzuki for a new one) and the cam and crank sensors usually go somewhere around 60-80K (about £120 for both).

Rot wise, check the rear seatbelt mounts and the boot floor where the litle cubby is - nothing like as bad as a discovery does and dead easy to plate if they did need doing.

My little jimny will go places some landrovers wont...ImageUploadedByArbtalk1378760068.295146.jpg.e791dbe15f2462dd7603ed59d6f6dd11.jpg

;) haha, it's a great little truck and with a set of decent tyres will go almost anywhere, I've had mine in some fair holes and on some nice angles :)ImageUploadedByArbtalk1378760185.007210.jpg.8f487619b1e3f68301cc4e19b0f501df.jpg

Discovery sounds good, plenty of them around, so no problem with spares. But there's a lot of automatics and big petrol engines and I need something reasonable on fuel. Disco ticks boxes for pulling chipper or trailer, parts. I bought Mitsubishi Delica L300 last year and it was all about spending money on it and trying to find parts or rather reconditioning old ones.

Vitara and Jimny should be cheaper to insure and run but what about parts and pulling power?

Don't get a jinmy, vitara or a sportrak they will not pull themselves out of bed!!!!

Fourtrak's are solid and simple but 55mph is your lot. Troopers rot but have stonking engines and good tow capacity. I'd be looking at a disco too due to the fact that as treequip says your gonna be getting your hands dirty and landrovers are akin to lego tecknic to work on and you will find help and support/pic allover the web.
