Hmmm, not sure I'd include a £35 book(let) in a truck to be honest. Albeit a 'handy' size I see this more as an office based reference book.

av not read the treads and for the life of me cant remember its on a PDF file and is done by aspect tree consultancy its got everything in it you need to know sorry its a bit vague hope this helps

That cant be the case because BS standards documents are copyright protected and cant be reproduced, there are a couple of presentation documents on their website but hardly "everything in it"

 

why don't you let him have a peek at your copy, you do have one don't you?

 

all are work is carried out to BS3998 and all relevant AFAG guidelines

You would think that this being a dedicated Arb forum tree related British Standards would be on a page for all to click on and reference. That's ALL the standards. It should be a one stop site for all information , links , Plus, all good Arbs should have them to hand and be able to recite them word for word,

In fact , what about having as well as all the other links across the top of the home page a reading list, with links to how to get the best deals or discount prices, on readings . Fungi link works great so what about a book list ?

I think BS are out the question. They must make a fortune selling them, I read somewhere the latest 5837 is the fastest selling ever, if it was freely available here I expect they'd want a small (large) fortune for it! A member nominated book list could be great though, covering all sorts. Carving, milling, climbing, biology etc...

OK not freely, but hopefully with an agreed discount, but with an easy link to find it, why is it that all things that begin with 'Tree' are so expensive, the reading list could be graded at specific levels of learning so as not to over complicate the list or cost to those looking for knowledge specific to a learning level. We have knot Guide, Chat, and other similar mind stuff, so why not a short reading list, could even be based on Tech cert . Could also link into what Tony has built up.

We've contacted BSI a number of times over the years to try and get licensed copies of all the relevent standards for a resource section at Arbtalk, but there was no room to negotiate sadly.

 

I would like to think that getting the standards to as wide an audience as possible would be a primary focus for documents like the British Standards, but it appears that the issue of cost from drafting, editing, reviewing and producing is the main concern of the institute and prevents them from offering discounted rates to the industry.
