Well, didn't see the program, I have no TV- however it sounds like a total BBC 'public interest ' setup to me- hardly any important points abt arb work, legal matters ect, total opposite to the 'inside out' program mentioned earlier on this site. BBC - report the rubbish-ignore the real news-dohhhhhh !

Think they should have at least finished the job off with a proffesional crew as an example of how undertake the work, and put right their mistakes ..instead of farting around with silky saws on a diffrent tree with no real insight of what to expect from reputable firm.

Don't forget that these programs are made for entertainment for the masses us much as anything else. Shock value and no substance or decent information but thats what the public wants.

At leats no one got hurt (But if they continue in that vain it won't be long). Would have liked to see more of the cavity, it looked a fair size. If the tree was not comming down why did they let them work on it knowing they were going to hack it?, defeated the object of the programme.A little later they stopped the guys from laying tarmac before they knacked the drive. One very good point though.If they knew the guys were endangering themselves,who would have been responsible to the H & S if he had slipped with that blunt saw and cut himself? The BBC as employer? Crazy to let/put people in danger.They could have let them loose on felling a small Elder etc

Very good point!!!! MAybe it was all set up and at the end they found the cavity and condemmed the tree which was the right thing to do? Making the program makers look silly!!

 

However their techniques were pretty awful.

I still cant get over the "expert" stating £450 for 3 men for the day, and missing a hoofing great cavity? Quite apart from all the other made-for-tv stuff. I think the old boy was just an old tree-cutter, who has always got by. Dont think they were true "rogue-traders" in the sense of the other examples shown on the programme. Dodgy work, dodgy knowledge, and very blunt saws maybe,and a danger to themselves and anyone in the near vicinity, but hardly in the category of the tv men, or the charming soul doing the driveway later in the film. What a missed opportunity the programme was.

No one else seem to care about the fact that the 'old guy' tried to talk her into felling the tree from the very start!

 

Ive been to quite a few jobs where the customer has asked me if the tree is safe because "someone posting leaflets told me it was dead/ dying and a danger so it needed felling right away" really pisses me of that and there the ones were the customer has said no and got a second opinion, I am sure there are plenty of others where they have just gone along with it and been totally scamed.

 

Although they didnt try to rip them off with ridiculously high prices God knows what the final bill would have been when they would have probably added on loads of extras "blah blah blah it was very dangerous and bigger than it looked so we will have to charge you XXXX amount more"

Yeah too right there I would have thought around about £200 and had a nice easy half a day .

 

BTW that guy pouring red bull down the back of the TV wanted jailing for that little scam
