Came across this on the treatment of affected Ash trees and the disposal of the upper part of the tree.

Forestry Commission - Chalara ash disease - Disposal and removal

If I am understanding it right is advises that the parts of the tree felled need to be burnt on site and not cut for firewood as this would or could spread the disease.

Makes sense to me, but I bet a lot of diseased wood will get into the firewood chain.

I don't think anyone will argue with that one. I see nothing put in place to prevent it - and when 25t of diseased ash can be sold for £1000+ with minimal risk or burned for £0, is it surprising?

Does anyone believe, realistically, that it's going to make any difference to the rate that chalara will spread?

Talk about closing the stable door.

Nope, as it sporulates in the rotting leaves, so unless somebody picks ALL the fallen leaves up and burns them, it'll still spread
