The local "garden barn" flogs them for £15 each, at about 8" diameter. Apparently they fly off the shelf. I use birch bark to get mine going. I don't sell them, but I have a dozen drying in the greenhouse at any one time. Accompanies a few beers with the lads really well!

So go then, please explain what you use for a wick and how do you insert it all the way into the log for it to work. And is that all there is to them.:confused1::blushing:

Firelighter in the top. Apply fire.

You could use a stick and push it to the bottom which I think would be more effective

So basically, if i drill a 25mm hole to the centre, push a firelighter down it, light it and hopefully hey presto, it works.:001_huh:

They need to be in four sections to work efficiently, I split mine with axe, put a bit of tinder at the base push them together and tie them with a root or anything to hand, they ignite quite quickly, once alight it doesnt matter if what you tied with them burns away.

I find an old filter from a lorry or tractor makes a good casing, obviously you need to remove all the paper/plastic first.
