I had a call today from a very distressed lady, she said that she was after some advice as her neighbour had pruned her tree without asking and she was wanting to know if it would recover.

We called after work to see what I can only describe as probably the worst pruned beech I've ever seen..,

She asked if I would come to see the neighbour with her, yes I replied and off we went. A lady in her 60's came to the door and her explanation was she did it to help her neighbour as it was hanging over her drive? She did offer to buy a replacement, what price are 30ft beech trees??? I'd love to pass on the info for her!

Then her husband came to the door bare chested and big saggy boobs on show to the world, he started by shouting 'I've cut down loads of trees man, that'll come back lovely next year!'

I replied, no you are wrong that tree will not come back at all never mind lovely! He then went on to tell me that I knew nothing and I was talking sh*t. Very pleasant gent to say the least!

The outcome was we left with the lady who rang us close to tears

Surely that is criminal damage?

Get a quote for a replacement 30 foot beech tree. I bet they will be surprised when they see the delivery and labour costs to plant that beauty.

HI RICH your right mate criminal damage but does the lady want to call the lawyers in mate that may cost £10k but it may put them in there place some times a good thing thanks jon

I would just get a cost for a replacement tree and give them the option of buying that or going to court. I bet the cost for a replacement will be in the thousands. Not everywhere has 30 foot beech trees growing in their nurseries.

I once chopped down a Tree of heaven that was shot. The TO insisteed on a replacement and to get a 30 foot Tree of Heaven it had to be imported in from Holland. It cost thousands.

On the legal front, most household insurance policies have legal cover. That may stretch to a neighburly dispute.
