The Elvis thing is just a caught nerve, if you move the postion of your foot everything will be cool....

Climbing rock/ice/trees i am guessing is all similar, its a mind set....trust in yourself, your equipmet and your capabilities....if something goes wrong, well 9/10 times it will be too late to do anything about it just buckle up for the ride or look for a soft bush....

I have had some fantastic episodes, but the only one which hurt was a 4 foot fall through some scaffold....

Respect her, as she will kill us all...just take advantage of her resources whilst you can...mother nature never stops ;-)

Its not heights im scared of its the ground

yep, falling 30 foot is fine its the last inch that seems to hurt... not that i have ever fell that far or ever want to. i have been dropped off a ladder whilst pruning the lower branch of a lime.

The best way for dealing with heights is, if you find your arse is twitching or your leg is doing the old Elvis thingy weather it is up a tree or on a ladder all i do is get Paul to do it :bootyshake::thumbup:

HI CHRIS if i get like that can i call on you and paul :001_rolleyes:thanks jon

If i feel insecure at height i dont like it.Checking my kit closely beforehand and relying on it 100% takes away apprehension.I always get a bit of butterfies before climbing, but when i`m underway i dont think a lot about it and concentrate on the job in hand.

Moving about with ropes i find thrilling, but i really dont like ladders, and i dont like the look of mewps.

I think a healthy fear of heights, not hysterical fear, concentrates the mind and removes complacency.

I think it is paramount to have faith in your equipment, system and what you are roped in to.

I know what you mean Spruce Pirate, I find at about 60-70ft I often start double checking, I just have that sense that I'm pretty high.

The higher i go the more I enjoy it, I know when I'm told to pack my harness I am going to have a good time! Maybe it's the stupidity of youth. :thumbup1: I hope I never grow out of it whatever it is !!
